Abstract
Federated, distributed geoscience data system, implementation progress
Track: Renewable Energy

Geothermal data compiled by state geological surveys is being plugged into the National Geothermal Data System to reduce the uncertainty and financial risk in geothermal energy exploration and development. Higher value data is processed to get into standard formats by the data providers for delivery through web services. Other datasets are made accessible through repositories in whatever format is available, along with standard metadata documentation. Metadata are accessed through an ESRI geoportal catalog using an ISO metadata profile; metadata are intended to be harvested and distributed to catalogs anywhere that utilize the same web service interface and recognize the metadata profile. ArcGIS servers are deployed at 4 hubs operated by State Geological Survey partners to provide data services for surveys that lack the capacity. Various client applications are available, but we are focusing on services that are accessible via ArcGIS because of its wide market presentation.
