Abstract
Gas Utility As-Built Data Collection using ArcPad 10
Track: Mobile GIS
Authors: Brian Fee, Brad Kiep
The purpose of this pilot project was to provide evidence that a mobile handheld GPS unit with the appropriate software can be used to collect accurate as-built locations and attribute data for newly installed assets. Accurate GPS locations will save time and money when an asset needs to be repaired or replaced. Detailed data about each asset leads to more informed decisions on which assets need repair or replacement. Collecting asset locations and details at the same time of installation in a convenient workflow will enhance knowledge of the overall system and potentially save money. A Trimble GeoExplorer 6000 Series GeoXH using ArcPad 10 along with Trimble's GPS Correct extension and VRS Now real-time kinematic correction network was used to obtain sub-foot horizontal accuracy. In order to keep data collection simple for the field personnel, custom edit forms were built using ArcPad Studio to utilize data domains and subtypes.
