Abstract
Collaborative Solution To Creating & Implementing An Enterprise GIS Solution
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Brett Black, Justin Yarosevich
To improve operational efficiency and citizen engagement in local government, the City of Storm Lake, Iowa implemented a robust municipal enterprise GIS as a geospatial resource for the community. To develop the geodatabase, the City utilized everything from current county base maps, to hard copy maps of utilities infrastructure, and mobile GNSS field data collection of city assets at survey and sub-foot accuracy. Once collected, the data is now being deployed by several municipal offices including the Department of Public Works, Fire Department, and Police Department through multiple ArcView workstations and an internal ArcGIS Server-based web solution. The session will demonstrate the process of designing municipal GIS, collecting data, and making the geodatabase available to multiple government departments as well as the public.
