Abstract
Supporting Major Storm Restoration Efforts with Web-GIS
Track: Electric Utilities
Authors: Jeff Pires
National Grid's service territory in New England and New York was battered with several major storms in 2011, ranging from a series of June tornados, severe flooding events, Tropical Storm Irene, and an unusually early "SnowTober storm. Each event came with its own unique set of challenges; some impacted widespread areas, others left extreme but highly localized damage. By the end of the year, major storms had accounted for over 1 million of our electric service interruptions. In this presentation, learn how ArcGIS web applications and a central storm data warehouse were rapidly developed and deployed, providing situational awareness in a geospatial context to support restoration efforts.
