Abstract
An Enterprise GIS Database System for Transportation in West Virginia
Track: Transportation
Authors: Yueming Wu
West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) maintains highways across the state through its ten disparate districts and headquarters. Esri's technology is widely used to support WVDOH's decision making. To facilitate the usage the WVDOH Geospatial Transportation Information (GTI) Section has built a statewide enterprise GIS database system. At the headquarters where servers are located two types of ArcSDE geodatabases are created. A geodatbase for editing stores transportation GIS data that GTI maintains. A separate geodatabase for publication is built from the editing geodatabase and other data sources and it is accessible to the WVDOT community. At the district level, the publication geodatabase is replicated. GIS services are also published from the publication geodatabase. Python scripts are utilized to keep the databases in sync. Therefore with minimum effort GTI is able to maintain the entire system. This presentation gives an overview of the system and shares lessons learned from the project.
