Health GIS for Public Health Monitoring in Thane City, India

Health is prime factor considered for City planning and management.Individual citizen's health is directly related city's health and internal efficiency.Traditional method of public health monitoring proved insufficient with today's increasing and migrating population leading to spread of epidemics and shortfall of health facilities.Geo-Spatial application built on ESRI WebGIS Technology proves to be great tool in monitoring the PublicHealth.Thane MunicipalCorporation(TMC)–A Local Government in India has taken initiative to develop Web-GIS portal with layers and attribution of Road,Hospitals,Emergency centres,Police Stations,Blood Banks which helps TMC to keep check on accidents,monitoring and controlling of disease outbreaks,Epidemics,Monitoring of Health schemes.Health Department officials can log-in by their credentials to do tracking of diseases and extracting status through spatial and non-spatial reports.Same portal can be used by citizen to understand the facilities and infrastructure available for Health issues.General public aslo can perform spatial and non-spatial queries and get the online information and submit their complaints if any.
