Abstract
Adventures in GIS to Support LEED Certification
Track: Facilities
Authors: Karen Jordan
It is the policy of the UC Office of the President that all new and major renovation of structures meets LEED Silver Certification as part of its Sustainable Practices Policy. The UCR Capital Programs department has utilized the Campus GIS base data to assist in the planning of new construction projects on campus since 2007. For the first LEED construction project at UCR, GIS was used to obtain three credits, Alternative Transportation, Site Development and Heat Island Effect, supplementing the credits attempted in the construction process. Looking to the future role of LEED at UCR, the campus GIS data will play an important part in LEED certification for Existing Building Operation and Maintenance and all future LEED construction projects on Campus. This presentation will focus on how utilizing Campus GIS base data for the Campus LEED certification has enhanced campus sustainability and the future of all LEED projects.
