Abstract
Automating GPS Travel Time Data Processing Using Python
Track: Analysis and Geoprocessing
Authors: Amy Smith
The efficiency of GPS travel time data processing can be optimized through automation using Python and ArcGIS Geoprocessing tools. At Fehr & Peers, Python is used to develop custom standalone scripts and script tools geared toward processing large GPS datasets. These processes extract pertinent information and generate project-specific GIS data. Output data are utilized as inputs in advanced geospatial analyses as well as geovisualization via print, digital, and web-based media. This presentation highlights the use of Python in processing GPS data to produce corridor-specific travel time statistics, such as level of service, in Southern California.
