The CalAgPermits application combines multiple legacy systems into one web based data management system that meets the diverse requirements of all 58 California Counties. The GIS requirements for this system vary between counties, but also include a large amount of common data. ENVIRON has developed a database system that allows flexibility for individual counties to include specific data without duplicating common datasets and minimizing code changes for customization. Database entries customize the layers available for each county, and online edits allow users with minimal GIS knowledge to make adjustments and additions to data specific to their area of expertise. Multiple map modes provide different tools and capabilities within a common framework page, which minimizes maintenance requirements for application support staff. Data specifications provide for the ability to use a single map page for all of the different map configurations, rather than needing to change code pages whenever map requirements change.
