The New Jersey Office of GIS is in the process of conducting, with the help of contractors and stakeholders, a Fifty States Strategic Plan process that will be completed in early 2012.
Concurrently the Office of GIS also is managing a contract project to improve the spatially-excellent NJDOT roadway centerline layer with the addition of address attributes and private roads, to produce a public-domain framework roadway centerline layer statewide. This data set is scheduled for delivery in March, 2012.
An important part of the strategic plan will deal with options for maintaining this road centerline layer once the initial project is complete. A key issue is identifying local government sources for change detection and planning a mechanism, including GIS tools, for update submissions. Subsequently a business plan will be created to structure the work flow for this effort.
