Authors: Douglas Morales
The Department of Public Health (DPH) GIS Map Viewer is a tool which enables users to easily and quickly map health-related data and improves the accessibility and visualization of population health data using an internet GIS application. The DPH GIS Map Viewer was developed using Latitude Geographic's Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight, and ESRI's ArcGIS Silverlight REST API. Hosted data is from Los Angeles County GIS repository, with additional thematic mapping data provided Public Health programs. The DPH GIS Map Viewer displays health data in a drop-down menu-driven graphic user interface. The application enables users to perform simple GIS analyses and it provides visual and quantitative data for decision-making and analysis of spatial relationships. It also fosters data exchange and collaboration among users through sharing of map projects and images. Lastly, this application facilitates data use and collaboration in decision- and policy-making and grant funding opportunities.
