Abstract
Community Risk Assessment for the Fire Service
Track: Fire, Rescue, and EMS
Authors: Dustin Morrow
Understanding the Community Risk Assessment process in the fire service is essential, as it is the basis for much of your Standards of Cover, infrastructure development and ultimately, community support and trust. Utilizing GIS as the facilitator, the Community Risk Assessment process not only produces comparability amongst communities, but also allows for those unique differences that must be considered community by community. While many Fire Service organizations remain focused on justification for what they "need, adapting to a Community Risk Assessment process that focuses on "evolution allows the fire service and the community to benefit not only from what they need, but what they "want. Through readily available data models, focused workflows, transparency and community advocacy, GIS allows the fire service to produce a realistic and community supported Risk Assessment.
