Since 1994, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been operating a surveying system to monitor the coastal environment. To accomplish this surveying effort the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise utilizes and develops the latest technology capable for this task. The initial surveys focused on quickly surveying federal navigation channels. As the capabilities were expanded, these small scale surveys were replaced by a regional scale coastal monitoring program. This program evolved into the National Coastal Mapping Program which is tasked with the collection of high resolution lidar and imagery data for the coast of the U.S. Since the program's inception in 2004, the products have also evolved from standard point data and imagery files into a suite of refined informational products that are ready for analysis in a GIS environment. This presentation will outline the program, data, and streamlined workflow used to generate these products.
