Rowland Water District manages maintenance and distribution of water to Rowland customers. Managing the assets and workflows between staff in the office and field crews is a challenge. ROWD worked with Nobel Systems to develop an integrated web and mobile applications to enable seamless communication of information between the office and field. The web application provided access to GIS and other information. The application also provided the ability to manage digalert, view as-builts, redlining field updates, SCADA and valve isolation. For the field crews to use it effectively under field conditions a mobile iOS application was created with modules to report leaks, perform flushing, modify workorders and viewing as-builts.
The web and mobile applications work seamlessly. The applications also takes advantage of the native capabilities of the mobile devices such as GPS, camera, etc. This project demonstrates the value of creating a web and mobile application to seamlessly share information.
