Abstract
Rangeland Inventory on the Umatilla Indian Reservation
Track: Tribal/Indigenous GIS Programs
Authors: Stacy Schumacher
The Rangeland inventory was conducted in 2009 and 2010 on over 66,000 acres of land. The purpose of the inventory was to determine rangeland condition and calculate forage production and stocking rates. The inventory included 455 plots on 26 ecological sites in 11 range units. Data collection included the dry weight rank method with comparative yield protocol. The geographical outputs included updated ecological site information, ecological condition status, adjusted available forage production, AUM's per parcel, and culturally important plant density estimates. The ArcGIS platform provides an efficient tool for data management when integrating multiple sources of information, including photography, access database outputs, GPS information as well as tabular data.
