Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA) has been stepping up tree management works since 2007. Spatial and textual information including dimensions, species and assessment data of these trees are essential for effective tree management. Previously, the tree assessment for these estates was carried out in sporadic approach and the spatial data was kept in CAD drawing. Since 2010, HKHA has taken initiative to conduct systematic tree survey and risk assessment for existing public housing estates, flatted factories and other properties under HA and integrate the spatial and textual information of trees with the Geographic Information System of HKHA. The presentation covers the design of the tree database, the overview of the tree survey and risk assessment of housing estates and the pilot project of Mobile Mapping System in carry out tree survey to facilitate systematic tree risk assessment works.
