Abstract
House Purchase Planner. A Web-Based GIS Application Assisting Prospective Homebuyers
Track: Business and Commercial
Authors: Carsten Lange
The presentation introduces a GIS web application called House Purchase Planner (http://www.houseplanner.info), which is designed to help prospective homebuyers to find a home and location tailored to their needs and budget. It is based on a hedonic model applying spatial analysis.
A unique benefit of House Purchase Planner is that it not only estimates the overall house price but also by how much amenities (##bedrooms, school quality, distance to beaches etc.) contribute to the purchasing price. This helps homebuyers to understand what exactly determines the price. Furthermore, since the application makes it easy for users to re-adjust preferences, homebuyers can re-calibrate until they locate the perfect purchase area that meets both their preference and their budget.
The presentation will demonstrate key functionalities of the House Purchase Planner, briefly explain the GIS based research behind the scene, and show how ArcGIS Server technology has been utilized to create the application.
