Abstract
Transition from traditional web-mapping to purpose driven mobile GIS solutions
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Jennifer Lana
The purpose is to provide a historical view of Web-GIS viewers within Cobb County, Georgia and why we have expanded to a workflow based approach to building and delivering web-GIS applications. We will offer a perspective on our experiences with various technologies (Flex, Silverlight, HTML5) and the trends we see regarding the use of GIS within our community. We will also summarize how our implementation of mobile maps on tablets, smartphones and iOS devices has led to success and efficiency within the county government.
Our GIS interactive and mobile map products are directly aligned with Cobb County's commitment to provide public access to information. We make use of new technology to deliver purposeful applets to many groups within Cobb County, from Public Access, to Property Appraisal to 911 Dispatch. By continually taking advantage of innovative spatial data delivery options improves engagement and support, from management, staff and citizens.
