USCG Web Application for Spatial Analysis of Pelagic Fish Species
Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources
Authors: Mary Mozingo
The GEOINT intelligence analysts in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) are in need of a simple yet effective web GIS platform to view data and perform spatial analysis of potential illegal fishing locations. They are accustomed to Google Earth which has an easy to use interface that is considered intuitive; however, Google Earth only provides very limited spatial analysis capability which is insufficient for their daily analysis tasks. This project develops a GIS web viewer supporting analysis for the USCG. The viewer is developed based on ArcGIS Server and Flex API to meet the requirements of an easy to use interface with geoprocessing analysis capabilities. This web GIS viewer facilitates a more efficient, consistent and accurate analysis environment for USCG GEOINT analysts.
