Managing over 80,000 miles of state maintained road network has been a consistent challenge for the GIS Unit at the NC Department of Transportation. As part of the implementation of the multiuser geodatabase project to consolidate and centralize the 100 counties of linear referenced centerline data into SDE, the team wanted to maximize SDE versioning mechanisms while maintaining the integrity of the data in a high volume work setting. The Workflow Manager extension (WMX) was implemented to assist in the management of day to day editing of the versioned linear reference system. By defining and streamlining editing process workflows the team of editors can reliably follow standard procedures making complex and tedious steps now easily handled by the click of a button even when maneuvering between multiple software packages. The administrative overhead of version and task management has become streamlined allowing for quick implementation of business process change.
