Abstract
Military Land Use Planning using GIS
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Sherman Green
Updating and sustaining geospatial data used for Military Base Master planning is a challenging task. For this reason, MCB Camp Lejeune in collaboration with Critigen developed a repeatable and sustainable GIS business process that streamlined data modeling workflows to updated land use data layers and information. In addition to this, data QA/QC procedures were implemented to ensure that the data produces by the semi-automated approach was spatially accurate and geometrically clean data. The project included pulling installation facility data from iNFADS and developing a matrix for populating facility and parcel data with the correct land use classification based on the UFC 2-100-02 Installation Master Planning Guide. As a result of this effort, the installation successfully integrated land use category codes that will help managed the base's 156,000 acres through a repeatable process for years to come.
