How Denver Water Synced GIS and Work Management

In 2008, Denver Water set out to create a solution that would tie GIS information to its work and asset management system, Maximo. The biggest driver for this was the fact that information was not centrally located. As an example, Denver Water had fire hydrant information in 3 different databases. We started with migration and syncing of these fire hydrant assemblies and then moved onto other blow off valves. The next step was the Water Network Integration project. We took on the migration and sync of linear features, and many of the more critical point features such as valves. During the whole process, the business stakeholders were involved, but not really convinced of the value of what was being done. Critical to the success of the project is the syncing process that runs on a nightly basis keeping these systems in step. This system has greatly strengthened Denver Water.
