Abstract
ArcGIS-Assisted Catastrophe Model Development and Risk Analyses
Track: Insurance
Authors: L Li
The frequency and intensity of the natural Catastrophe occurrences are highly varied over space, and the detailed-spatial analyses are essential for catastrophe modeling, risk management and sustainable business development. A number of ArcGIS-assisted catastrophe risk management applications have been developed to evaluate the spatial characteristics of insurance portfolios, to predict the potential damage and loss, given an foreseeable or real-time, extreme catastrophe event, and to help the insurance make proactive planning for emergency response and disaster mitigation. This presentation first introduces the spatially-based, deterministic methodology of the catastrophe risk modeling applications, and then demonstrates how to use them to analyze the property damage and loss of the extreme tornado and hurricane events. Finally, it discusses about how to apply the analytical results to insurance portfolio risk management to identify the risk levels of its geographic territories.
