GIS is a great tool for graphically representing information within a database. As part of a condition assessment of the Bar BC Dude Ranch at Grand Teton National Park, GIS was used to demonstrate varying conditions of the 33 log cabins located on site and environmental circumstances around each structure that could potentially threaten the architectural material. A rapid risk assessment was conducted over 5 days in August 2011. Each structure was assessed for material and formal integrity, and the site was surveyed for potential threats to the structures. GIS was used to represent the architectural conditions and the environmental threats. The ability to represent information graphically over a landscape is an invaluable tool for historic preservation and archeological site management. For the Bar BC, statistical correlation between material condition and environmental threats pinpointed specific deterioration patterns that could influence prioritization of further documentation and stabilization treatments.
