The Cadastral Basemap project was developed to overlay basic infrastructure services for the City of Mosul during the peak of conflict and fighting in the post-Saddam era.
Ninewa GIS Center developed the project at the request of Mosul Municipality, Ninewa Urban Planning, Ninewa Water & Ninewa Sewer departments and coordinated with Ninewa PRT, RTI & Master Planning Steering Committee in Ninewa province. Prior to this project, there was no GIS information available for the City.
Working with partners in USAID, and USACE the project was able to gain the support of the US Ambassador to declassify topographic data from the Military, and purchase satellite imagery in support of this Project.
The outcome of this project is an accurate digital cadastral database that enables the development and planning of of the cities infrastructure and reconstruction after decades of neglect and corruption.
