Utilizing the enterprise GIS to improve the utility infrastructure management is proved to be the cost efficient practice. GIS centric asset management in a water utility provides a unique opportunity for the GIS function to develop a strategic role in asset management. At the Otay Water District, we take the advantage of the GIS open database structure to accommodate the demand of the horizontal and vertical assets. The organizational GIS web viewer not only provides the staff with easy access to the virtual presentation of the asset information but the decision making information through dashboard format.
