Abstract
Delaware Topographic Maps - Past, Present, and Future
Track: Cartography and Map Production
Authors: Lillian Wang
Topographic maps of Delaware were provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) until 1992 when the 1:24,000-scale topographic map series of the 48 conterminous States was officially completed. During the end of the 20th century, a pilot project for the USGS National Map was developed in Delaware to provide a crowdsourcing digital update tool for the major layers in a USGS topographic map. The Delaware Data and Mapping Integration Laboratory (DataMIL) is managed by the Delaware Geological Survey (DGS) using ESRI products and serves Delaware's Spatial Data Framework Layers and topographic maps of Delaware. In 2011, USGS produced US Topo quadrangle maps for Delaware which use different digital data sources than the DataMIL topographic maps. Discussions within DGS include relocating the topographic map portion of DataMIL to ArcGIS Online. DGS would provide additional and more detailed data than what is currently offered by DataMIL and US Topo.
