Using GIS and Smartphones to manage Campus Wide Workflows
Track: Facilities

Managing a large campus with multiple boundaries can be challenging, especially when spread across separate buildings miles apart from each other. Los Angeles Unified School District and UCLA are using CitySourced smartphone reporting tools with Esri tools across large campuses to increase workflow efficiency. Esri's GIS and location technology are utilized to intelligently assign building room and floor numbers by comparing the coordinate data against various geodatabases. Increased savings have also been seen through the more detailed information obtained through smartphone technology. By combining the GPS in the smartphone with the Esri feature services, facilities management staff can automatically populate site names, asset tags and other information automatically without asking the user to fill out extra data in their reports, improving customer service and lowering costs. The Los Angeles Unified School District has seen the cost of issue submission drop 75% through the adoption of these technologies.
