Abstract
Geoprocessing in landslide risk assessment and mapping
Track: Analysis
Authors: Mats Oberg
A comprehensive landslide risk assessment has been carried out by SGI in the Gota river valley, Sweden, to limit consequences of climate change on society.
Risk = Hazard (probability of occurrence) * Consequences. Hazard assessment involve several data sources such as DEM, soil geology, river flow characteristics and borehole soundings. Consequences (i.e. areas of considerable economic values) are derived from a variety of data sources such as population, real estate property values, traffic infrastructure, energy, industrial facilities etc.
The presentation will show how ArcGIS Model Builder and Spatial Analyst have been used in geoprocessing of hazards and consequences to produce risk maps. This map set is one of SGI's compulsory themes according to the European INSPIRE Directive. The landslide risk assessment would have been practically impossible without GIS.
Much of the knowledge and experience gained in the project can be implemented and used elsewhere, nationally and abroad.
