Abstract
FHWA's All Roads Project: Moving Toward a National Roads Database
Track: Transportation
Authors: Justin Clarke
It was announced on August 7, 2012, that FHWA's Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) will expand the requirement for States to submit their Linear Referencing System (LRS) from the Federal-aid system to include all public roads. This presentation will provide information about the technical challenges of moving the FHWA HPMS database from a centerline system to a dual carriageway, full extent system. A progress report will also be provided on the national study underway to define best practices for State development of LRS systems that include local and dual carriageway features. The presentation will relate progress on setting standards for data collection of point and linear features and system maintenance, as well as coordination with other Federal Agencies including the U.S. Census Bureau. ArcGIS and business intelligence solutions that either have been, or are being implemented, to make this national requirement a reality will be discussed.
