Authors: Diego Pardo Cárdenas
Power generation is a complex process to model for any information system. It is more complex when this modelling includes all the different phases involved: pre-feasibility, feasibility, design, construction and operation. In Colombia, Empresas Publicas de Medellin-EPM is the biggest and more important energy generation company, with 27 power plants and with maximum participation of the country market allowed by regulation. In order to manage all the geographical information needed to attend the business processes, EPM chose ESRI tools to serve different kind of users working with: parcel administration, facilities management, hydrological databases, environmental monitoring, archaeological recording, forest resources, communities' management, geotechnical risk and monitoring, and all the requirements related with spatial information. The objective of this presentation is to show to the audience, the experiences in addressing the needs of users, in how to analyse possible solutions and all the problems that arise when implementing such a complex system.
