Abstract
Impact of the NATO Geospatial Information Framework (NGIF) on NATOcoreGIS
Track: Defense and Intelligence

A new Standardization Agreement (STANAG 2592) is under development in NATO to define the content and structure of spatial data and spatial products (for land, maritime and air components) at different levels of detail. NGIF in its version 1 is entirely based on the US national GEOINT Structure Implementation Profile (GSIP). The standardization of a common data model and standardized portrayal rules for data and map products derived from one data model brings advantages in terms of semantic interoperability, but also provides some challenges in terms of coherence and maintenance.
This paper discusses how this new STANAG will impact future increments of the NATO geospatial data infrastructure realized by NATO Core GIS and implemented with Esri software.
