Abstract
Open data in Denmark
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Authors: Ulla Kronborg Mazzoli
The Danish Government releases much of its basic datasets used on a regular basis by both public administrations and private businesses. This is a driver for growth and efficiency.
Free access to good basic data for everyone is good business; for the public sector and for the society in general.
Danish parliament made basic data freely available from 1 January 2013 and spatial data from the Danish Geodata Agency is now available free of charge.
The implementation is based on internationally recognized standards and specifications.
Public authorities and businesses must be able to receive data rapidly and reliably. This constitutes the reason for establishing a Common Public-Sector Data Distributor.
A cross-institutional basic-data committee is ensuring efficient and coordinated development and use of basic data across the public sector.
The speaker will outline the main drivers for this ground breaking project and the financial benefits it is believed will be realised.
