Authors: Pablo Cabrera Barona, Paulina Guarderas
The objective of this study is to produce the mapping of cultural-heritage typologies in Ecuador, using census data, historical data and statistics analysis. In this project GIS was useful in order to visualize and process large amount of data efficiently: structuration of geographic data bases with cultural heritage variables, classification of this data and overlay analysis. Clusters analysis and factor statistical analyses were made and then the results were entered to the data bases in ArcGIS. The combination and analysis of the variables were used in order to produce the territorial cultural-heritage typologies. Nine territorial cultural-heritage typologies were found. This project shows a new methodology of heritage´s territorial analysis, a new approach for heritage managers and a useful guideline for GIS professionals that work with cultural data.
