Traditionally CAD has been used for offshore survey data. At Fugro Survey AS we saw a need for GIS to integrate the survey data seamlessly and to have a better overview of where surveys have been conducted.
In 2010 Fugro Survey AS implemented the Seabed Survey Data Model (SSDM) for managing survey data. The data model is used when planning new surveys, onboard the survey vessels, and during the reporting and charting phase of the survey. Survey data is stored in a central SQL Server database and data is published in web applications for. To make planning new surveys more efficient, some data is available for editing in a web application for project managers. This presentation will focus on the different steps of an offshore survey and how SSDM is used in the process by project managers, offshore geologists, reporting geologists, processors, cartographers, and sales and marketing.
