Abstract
Natrona Regional Geospatial Cooperative: Implementing Online Community Based Strategic Mapping
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Denyse Wyskup
The City of Casper, in collaboration with the Natrona Regional Geospatial Cooperative, executed a contract with North Line GIS to develop a community based online and mobile mapping solution to bridge the gaps in data accessibility, accuracy, and interoperability at the county, city, and rural community levels. The ArcGIS online solution was chosen for this project because of the: ease of use for novice users; ability to securely manage content/data; seamless integration into the current network infrastructure; mobile application readiness; and ability to provide user accessibility and editing capabilities through secure interfaces. In brief, this online mapping project has provided an effective conduit to evaluate and streamline workflows, creating more efficient government that, in turn, provides greater government transparency to its citizens through the implementation of internet based services. This effort has been especially successful in kick starting the regionalized effort to develop a standardized geospatial infrastructure between local governments.
