In conducting feasibility study of public housing sites, which may not be physically accessible at the initial stage, LiDAR data has demonstrated tremendous assistance in pursuing the visualization, spatial analysis and plan production in the GIS environment. With classified LiDAR data, both the digital terrain model and digital surface model can be created using sophisticated GIS tools. They can facilitate analysis such as computation of slope gradient, cut-and-fill volume in site formation work, flood simulation of coastal areas and positioning of overhead high voltage cables. Various works professional discipline found that the 3D GIS were extremely useful during the planning and design stages of works.
