GIS has been used for years as a powerful tool for capturing, manipulating, and analyzing geospatial data but, until recently, almost all representations have been created in 2D. A new modeling technique is emerging that allows GIS professionals to more closely represent the spatial aspects of reality. 3D GIS permits the user and their audience to see geospatial relationships from many different angles which, in turn, can enhance the decision making process . City planners, geologist and environmental scientists have begun to realize that the "Z" can be just as important as the "X" and "Y". However, integration between software packages that create 3D elements and ArcGIS is not always as straightforward as it should be. This paper will explain how to incorporate the functionality of Trimble SketchUp , Adobe Photoshop and ArcGIS to create a 3D description of a geospatial reality.
