Customizing Web Applications for Local Government Using JavaScript
Track: State and Local Government

The City of Huntington Beach had presented GIS data to its employees through a MapObjects based application for several years, but as the usage of smartphones, tablets and mapping apps surges, citizens and employees are demanding more easily accessible GIS data from the City. With government resources, both physical and monetary, becoming increasingly limited, it was necessary for the City to find a way to deliver GIS data in a user-friendly, cross-platform solution within those limits. This paper will present how this was accomplished using customization of ArcGIS for Local Government web applications and reconfiguration of our ArcGIS for Server (Windows) architecture. The addition of the Web Adaptor, security roles, and challenges faced with iPad use will be addressed.
