Abstract
Oil Development Feedback and GIS

Monitoring information using GIS for data sharing as opposed to consent building, as the MRIT project does, improves natural resource management responses at local spatial levels and aids the decision-making process for addressing challenges at the operational level in Western Uganda. Extractive industries identify Uganda as an opportune location for business due to a steady increase in GDP and its incentives for investors. Business operations challenge governments to keep, restore, and improve the community and natural resource sustainability as in the Kabowoya Wildlife Reserve. Uganda's National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) recognizes this established the Albertine Graben Environmental Monitoring Plan to track the impact oil developments have on the Albertine Graben. MRIT compliments this using GIS to contribute to better decision making and social inclusivity in natural resource extraction.
