Water purveyors in California are addressing the water supply challenges through the increase use of recycled water. The Recycled Water Task Force projected that recycled water use will increase to over 2 million acre-feet per year in California by 2030. This results in changes to business processes associated with new development planning, design and construction. Eastern Municipal Water District has aggressively been pursuing recycled water since 2005. GIS is the technology cornerstones to be used for the management and regulatory compliance of recycled water use. However, there are many burdens on the development community resulting in higher costs and longer delays. To streamline the business process and efficiently integrate GIS into the enterprise, EMWD established CAD standards that are in line with industry standards, scalable and facilitate a "drag and drop" of design documents into an ESRI environment for enterprise use. This presentation outlines the stakeholder and technical elements employed.
