Abstract
How GIS empowers climate change analysis
Track: Climate Change
Authors: Peter Kouwenhoven, Peter Urich
SimCLIM (from CLIMsystems) is a standalone tool (almost a dedicated GIS) for the analysis of (risks from) change in climate and climate variability. It has been in use and under development for almost 20 years. Very recently a toolbar for ArcGIS was developed by us that allows to utilize some of the functionality of SimCLIM directly in ArcGIS. With all the functions and options that ArcGIS itself offers, completely new pathways for analysis of climate change can be followed, opening new and exciting views on the subject. The presentation will focus on a few examples of this, with an emphasis on how ArcGIS supports and boosts the climate change analysis and reveal new findings.
