Abstract
GIS in Contiguous Emergency Response
Track: Fire, Rescue, and EMS
Authors: Ariane Schmidt
GIS, once an optional luxury, is now a mission critical component for public safety emergency response. E-911 location verification, closest unit dispatch, online infrastructure reference maps, oblique and traditional orthophotography images all demand a deep knowledge of GIS key concepts. This presentation outlines how the Spokane Fire Department and County Regional Combined Communications Center (serving 14 Fire Districts in Spokane County) has sought to leverage the area's Enterprise GIS to provide GIS resources for contiguous (or unbroken) knowledge transfer in emergency response.
