Abstract
Integrating GIS in a New Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Liz Findlay, Nancy Merritt
The Geospatial Emergency Management (GEM) Project was developed to:
. discover, collect and deliver critical geographic information requirements for use by Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and CEMA Agency Members.
. Develop a Common Operating Picture (COP) to enhance situational awareness shared across all echelons of governance within the City.
. Sustain, resource and agree to support ongoing and future operations.
In October 2012, when the City's new EOC opened , the GEM project delivered the core geographic and related business information, GIS technology and processes to all partners of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and members. The highly technical environment is now supported by reliable, accurate and near real time geographical data to support the best practices for Emergency Response and Recovery.
