Invasive Sahara Mustard Weed Habitat Toolset
Track: Environmental Management
Authors: Violet Cullors
Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP) Natural Resource Management team is trying to eradicate the invasive Sahara mustard (Brassica tournefortii) weed that can take over the park's desert landscape if left uncontrolled. Identifying the current and predicting the future Brassica habitat locations are critical to develop a control strategy. This study develops a GIS application partnering with GPS technology to help the JTNP staff gain the insight of the weed habitats. The developed application will help JTNP to develop an effective strategy plan for more direct control management and efficient utilization of their resources in eradicating this invasive weed.
