Abstract
Successful and sustainable change from within - SDI adoption
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Authors: Greg Carlson, David Enns
As part of a 2009 assessment on the current state of Manitoba's GIS capability was the recommendation to establish a new Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) initiative with a strong emphasis on governance as part of the technology solution.
A new SDI impacts several roles (GIS professionals and non-GIS professionals), business processes, interactions and transactions, data usage, and relationships. As part of this presentation, we will examine how change management played an integral component in the design of a rigourous (yet flexible and pragmatic) and transparent approach to ensure the effective and efficient deployment and adoption of Manitoba's new SDI.
We will highlight the design and build phases of the SDI, and discuss the benefits of using Esri technology and how ArcGIS Online can be leveraged as part of the SDI. A recap of lessons learned and future directions will be delivered as part of this presentation.
