The Division of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) at CDC is committed to assisting health professionals tailor resources and interventions to the needs of specific geographic areas. Last year DHDSP re-released a new and improved version of the Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke, a web-mapping application developed by DHDSP to assist users in identifying places that bear the greatest burden of cardiovascular disease. This year DHDSP has invested in enhancing the user experience and improving the data management process that drives the interface. We will discuss the new capabilities of the system and how these have improved the user experience. The Interactive Atlas, leveraging the ArcGIS Server Flex API, allows users to interactively display heart disease, stroke, and health services data at county and state levels, while also analyzing risk factors such as race, age, gender, and health indicators such as lifestyle choices, availability of services, etc.
