The McHenry County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Crime Mapping Program worked with the County GIS Department to develop a Silverlight web mapping system that allows the MCSO to fight crime smarter. The MCSO Crime Mapping Program includes a public use site where the general public can review crime trends in County jurisdiction and send tips to Crime Stoppers anonymously. It also includes an internal crime map that is used to create monthly crime trend reports in minutes. These crime reports allow each shift commander to allocate their resources more efficiently to provide the citizens of the County with high quality public safety. This presentation will be useful to anybody looking to deploy GIS to support public safety operations as well as local governments looking for creative ways to augment their staff to deliver mission critical solutions.
