Over the past few years, the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project has gained in popularity within the geo-community. OSM is an open access platform for geospatial vector data comprising a large variety of feature types. Since data contributions are not administered by a regulatory instance and contributions are made by volunteers, there is a strong demand for quality assessment analyses and tools.
This presentation demonstrates the combined use of the ArcGIS Editor for OpenStreetMap and the Data Reviewer extension for quality assessment of road networks in OSM. We discuss which checks can be applied, including checks for dangles, orphan roads, unnecessary nodes or duplicate geometries. Several OSM quality tests are conducted for selected regions across the United States, and their results are presented.
