Abstract
A Web Application for Tracing United States Stream Networks
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Florence Thompson
An interactive web mapping application for tracing streams in the United States on a national 1:1 million-scale stream network has been developed by the National Atlas of the United States. When a user chooses an upstream or downstream trace option and selects a location on the stream network in the web map, the application highlights all of the streams hydrologically connected to that location. Additional features include search and identify tools, USGS streamflow-gaging stations symbolized using near real-time stream flow data, a choice of base maps, and an option to generate a report with a map of the trace and descriptive information about the area covered by the trace. This presentation will include a demonstration of the web mapping application, a description of the trace methodology, and an overview of the application architecture.
